Community Advocacy Project

Community Advocacy Project

We have received funding from the Big Lottery to undertake an exciting new project to support individuals with a learning disability to have a greater involvement in the local community.

The Community Action through Advocacy project will work with individuals and groups of people with learning disabilities who live independently in the North of the Solihull borough.

Over the next three years, the Community Action through Advocacy project will...

  • Support people with a learning disability who live independently to become an active part of their local community. We will help individuals feel less isolated by supporting them to join existing groups within the community and to set up new groups when opportunities are not already available.

  • Provide opportunities for people to express their experiences of community life in a variety of ways by facilitating creative art workshops.  The outcomes of these workshops will be displayed at community events and exhibitions around the Solihull Borough.

  • Promote a greater understanding of Learning Disabilities to the wider community by working with existing community groups to ensure that their events and  activities are accessible to people with learning disabilities
  • Support the development of self advocacy for people with Learning disabilities by facilitating self advocacy groups. These groups will help individuals to build on personal development, confidence and self esteem.
