Nicky's thoughts on returning to work following maternity leave
What difference does 12 months make?
Having spent 12 months away from SAtA it was very strange to come back. So what was new?
To start with there were 2 new staff who hadn’t been there when I left.
Dave was called upon to cover my maternity leave but has proved so much of an asset that he’s stayed on.
Likewise Catherine who came on a 6 month contract to help with the ever increasing workload, has made herself indispensible so is luckily still here.
Jo has really got the Community project going with Jen and Simon moving over to join.
There are exciting workshops happening with a drama one planned leading up to Christmas.
Ace Groups have started under Emma’s guidance.
Changing Lives has grown now under the watchful eyes of Jo, Simon, Dave, Debbie and Emma.
SAtA continue to support service users during the council’s consultation on accommodation reprovision.
Sadly SAtA continue to have many referrals to support vulnerable adults through safeguarding procedures.
I hope that this just feels like more because people are thinking to use us for support and not because there is more abuse going on.
What has remained the same is a strong team providing quality advocacy to adults with a learning disability across Solihull
(and sometimes beyond).
